Trichy is a thriving commercial centre in Tamil Nadu. The historical city of Tiruchirappalli, popularly known as Tiruchi or Trichy, situated on the banks of the river Cauvery. Trichy is the fourth largest city in Tamil Nadu.
Trichy has several beautiful temples, churches and a large number of scenic spots. The rock fort is a well known landmark of the city. Once the citadel of the Chola kings, the fort has seen the passing of dynasties. Ruled in turn by the Pallavas and then the Pandyas, the present fort was built by the Nayak rulers of Madurai.
Trichy is famous for its rich cultural and wonderful architectural heritage and the town represents a fine blend of tradition and modernity. It is also famous for artificial diamonds, cigars, handloom cloth, glass bangles and wooden and clay toys.
